“Phillip Namanworth's music is a bridge
between two worlds - rock n roll, blues and the spirituality of
Shabbat, mitzvot and the sheer joy of being alive. He's also one
of the funniest people around - a Woody Allen of the music scene!”
Many people would think that the music world
is separate from the Torah world. Phillip Namanworth has proven
that the opposite is true.
Namanworth has a distinguished musical career
as a singer/songwriter. He has written songs for movies, cabaret,
and theater and was the pianist for the original Broadway productions
of Superstar and The Rocky Horror Show. His music
and lyrics have appeared on award winning television productions,
such as Saturday Night Live, Nickelodeon’s Rugrats,
and Sesame Street. Phillip is an accomplished blues/rock
musician who has worked with noted pop acts Roberta Flack, Ry Cooder,
Kenny Vance, and Elliot Randall.
In more recent years, Namanworth has integrated
his musical flair with his spiritual journey into Judasim. In his
own original style, Namanworth integrates heaven and earth, fusing
the ancient wisdom of the sages with the rhythm and blues of the
soul. He invites the audience on a journey offering a subtle taste
of magic in a non-judgmental and non-intrusive way. Phillip juggles
various musical styles with his own brand of humor, allowing our
souls to fly higher…
Phillip also serves as a mentor to many people
in their Torah studies. He hosts a weekly Torah class and works
for Rabbi Simon Jacobson as the Assistant Director of The Meaningful
Life Center. Philip is currently composing music for a play called
“The Journey of The Baal Shem Tov” about the founder of the
Chassidic movement, with book and lyrics by Benjamin Goldstein. He
is also working on a show with Elliot Finkel about a famous- infamous
nineteenth century female writer.
Phillip currently has two CDs available. They are entitled, “Phillip
Namanworth – Live from Different Places” and “Love, Loss & the
Search for a Higher Reality”. He has recently written several new
songs, and has plans to record a new CD sometime later this year.
