Iyar

This is the only month of the year in which every day is infused with a unique Mitzvah. By the counting of the Omer we change the face of time itself. It is also a month of memorializing the twenty four thousand students of Rabbi Akiva who perished in a horrible plague. The eighteenth of the month, Lag b’Omer, is a celebratory festival, commemorating the passing of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the Mishnaic scholar and author of the seminal Kabbalistic work, the Zohar. On that day, the students of Rabbi Akiva ceased passing. This month is the bridge between the freedom of exodus and the gifting of Torah.
